7.3. How can my family support me?
* We are all either infected or affected by HIV.
* A person living with HIV belongs to a family.
* The best the family can do is to give full support and treat the infected person as if they are not infected.
* At times the person living with HIV will require more support, especially when they start taking ARVs or when they are feeling depressed.
* They may need financial help when they are not able to earn their own income.
* Remember, as much as the person living with HIV needs support from the family, the family also can benefit from emotional support and sharing ideas and information on how best to take care of an HIV positive person.
* Often it's the people living with HIV who teach their families about HIV and AIDS. But this depends on how open their families are to learning about the disease.
