4.1. Don't lose hope!
* When you are diagnosed with HIV it can be a shocking experience. You may be worried about the future and dying and what will happen to your loved ones.
* The good news is that modern treatment for HIV and AIDS means that living with HIV is the same as living with any other chronic disease such as high blood pressure or diabetes.

* When HIV is closely managed, regularly checked and treated properly, HIV positive people live happy, healthy and busy lives.
* But it does mean that you will have to learn to keep your immune system healthy, lower your stress levels and build up a good support system.
* It is also important that you protect yourself and your partner from further infection.
* Your doctor or counsellor will give you information about your rights as someone living with HIV.
* They will also tell you where you can go for further counselling and medical help when you need it.
