About Red Ribbon

The Red Ribbon website is a flagship project of the Metropolitan Foundation. Providing a comprehensive resource on HIV disease, this website should be the first port of call for people seeking information on HIV and AIDS.

While many non-profit organisations (NPOs) are responding magnificently to the social challenges of the epidemic, they are frequently under-resourced. They not only lack funding, but also information, expertise, training, guidance and support from other organisations and government departments doing similar work. The Metropolitan Foundation has found that many NPOs are working side by side in the field, and yet are unaware of each other's existence. As soon as these organisations are brought together they quickly realise how much they can help each other by sharing resources. Effective networking leads to greater capacity and a more potent non-profit sector. This is why the Foundation has taken over the sponsorship of AIDSbuzz.org which features a searchable directory of over 1,500 NPOs working in the field of HIV and AIDS throughout South Africa.
